We love playing freeze dance and cold snowball (think hot potato!) … and to us, “Do you want to build a snowman?” is not just a song, it’s a challenge! Check out our event calendar, then “Let it go!” and leave the party planning to us!

If you’re looking for a fun last-hurrah-of-summer activity for your children, we still have a couple spaces left in THIS WEEK’S workshops. Tuesday’s class is designed for 4th-7th graders, while Wednesday’s workshop is perfect for all the rising kindergartners-3rd graders. Give us a call ASAP – 386-2253 (CAKE) – to reserve a spot, as space is limited!
Then, once the big kids go back to school, we look forward to seeing all of the preschoolers in The Cooking Corner! Preschool Storytime and Crafts is back – August 27th at 12:30 for “Just Because Day!” It’s an hour of stories, hand-on activities, and sweet treats … just because!
We’re also very excited about our August Cupcake-of-the-Month: BANANA BUDDING. Of course, it’s tasty … but it was chosen from a design suggestion at a recent field trip. We receive fun ideas from kids at special events, through our Girl Scout workshops, and from bakery tour visitors. This cupcake idea came from Nathan, who visited with Boys Town North Florida. Congrats to him … as he’ll soon be sharing a complimentary box of Banana Pudding cupcakes with his buddies! Stay tuned because we’ll be unveiling an in-store coloring contest very soon.
We love hosting birthday parties at The Cake Shop! Check out some photos from a recent celebration, where the creativity was flowing! Also in birthday party news: all you parents will be interested to know that we now offer a “Frozen” party theme! This is mostly due to the MANY requests we receive for Frozen parties. But it’s also a great mantra for families who choose The Cake Shop for their celebration. Why not “LET IT GO!” and leave the party planning to us!?
Remember, we rent our special events room out for all kinds of special occasions! Perhaps you’re planning a meeting, a shower, ladies’ game night, or a family reunion? We just revamped our bridal and baby shower offerings. Let us take the stress of shower hosting, or help you dream up a celebration to remember!
Next up in the Cooking Corner for adults is a fabulous culinary class – September 4th – with Brian Knepper, Executive Chef at The Governor’s Club. We are thrilled that Brian has agreed to serve as a guest chef in our Cake Shop Cooking Corner … especially because proceeds from this class will benefit Children’s Home Society. Registration details can be found on our event calendar!
We’ll close this month’s Shoptalk with some fun event photos, as well as a delicious recipe from our Owner and Head Chef Linda Richards – Chroque Monsieur – a specialty grilled cheese that got rave reviews from The Cake Shop team! The photos below are from our summer of kitchen fun, including: our first-ever week of summer camp at The Cake Shop, and special visits with FSUS Camp, Girl Scout troops, and the KUMC Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) group. Thank you to everyone who frequents The Cake Shop. We enjoy being part of your special celebrations!
What do YOU throw together when you have just a few ingredients in the refrigerator? We loved challenging our campers to come up with a masterpiece … when given tape, clothespins, pipe cleaners, etc. Now, will they exercise that same creativity in the kitchen!?
It’s safe to say Anna Grace’s parents hit a home run when they chose The Cake Shop for her softball-themed birthday celebration. The girls sure brought their A-game when it came to creativity! We loved the fun party decor … and we sure were wowed by the super decor ideas displayed by Anna Grace and her buddies!
The “Luau” theme is probably our most requested “Have your Cake and Eat it too!” birthday party package. The kids love the decor and the themed cookie challenges. And, much like all the sand found on the floor after a real beach party, parents are thrilled to leave a floor full of sprinkles to The Cake Shop party staff after this beach-themed luau!
Lots of toppings to create luau masterpieces like tiki faces, beach balls, and more!
Welcome to our monthly newsletter: SHOP talk! While we welcome you to VISIT The Cake Shop to sample our delicious baked goods, we look forward to BRINGING you our latest, greatest news, by email, each month. A new method is in the works, but “taste test” this newsletter format for now! We’ve included some event pictures, details on an upcoming storytime, our cupcake of the month, and a featured recipe! Plus, you’re just a click away from our special events calendar and the rest of Cake Shop website – which is regularly updated with information on our newest bakery offerings.
The newest item in our display case is the May Cupcake of the Month: CINNABUN! Make sure you stop by the shop this month, because this sweet treat will only be here through May!
This has been a busy spring at The Cake Shop. Our kitchen was cranking out cakes left and right for college graduation and first communion celebrations this past weekend. And, as always, our calendar has been full of birthday parties, culinary classes, baby showers, bridal luncheons, and youth workshops. Check out this adorable baby boy breakfast shower. More pictures from the event can be found in an earlier blog post. Next month, we’ll be unveiling our new baby and bridal shower packages, as well as packages for grown-up cupcake decor parties!
Next month we are excited to be holding our first-annual Kids in the Kitchen Summer Camp (which is FULL!), but in the next newsletter, we’ll announce dates for a couple single-day youth workshops, as well as a summer culinary class. Earlier this month, we all learned a ton about meals on the go when we hosted Randi Shiver, AKA Little Miss Mason Jar. Don’t forget – we carry Randi’s book in our shop. It would make a great teacher gift (with a mixing bowl … and a cupcake, of course!)
Things always seem to be HOPPIN’ in our party room, and that was definitely the case when we hosted our Easter Bunny Buffet in mid-April. Many of you “hopped on by” for a sweet treat, a bunny snack, and craft! We look forward to seeing those cute, young faces again on Wednesday, May 14th, for our monthly “Preschool Storytime & Crafts” hour. In April, we celebrated National Peanut Butter & Jelly Day, by sampling the just-unveiled Cupcake of the Month. You guessed it – PB&J. And we enjoyed great children’s books read by TallyMom Vanessa. In addition to making Storytime with TallyMom appearances, Vanessa runs a wonderful community calendar and resource – TallyConnection.com (where she posts many of her storytimes online). Hope all of you preschool families can join us in the shop later this month.Coming soon? The Cake Shop Cookie of the Month! Plus, exciting news, and updates to, our series of workshops designed for local Girl Scout troops. We also have several school and camp groups joining us this summer for field trips. Contact our Director of Special Events and Community Relations for more information. And, of course, always follow us on Facebook. We’ll wrap things up with a recipe – one of Linda Richards’ favorites – Bacon, Cheddar, and Chive Scones. These scones were featured in one of our recent culinary classes, alongside a dinner soup. But, they would be fabulous for brunch, or with a summer salad. Simple and savory!
See you soon at The Cake Shop … where we’re always BAKING memories!
And by “Let it Go!” we mean … just give in, and throw your child that Frozen-themed party they’ve been asking for! 🙂 We love hosting these parties at The Cake Shop. Just select “Cupcakes & Fun” for your Have Your Cake & Eat it Too! party package theme, then we’ll make the rest look like a winter wonderland. Yes, we do listen to the Frozen music for all 90 minutes (we can muscle through parents!). Yes, we play Pin the Nose on Olaf. Yes, we Freeze Dance. And trust us, they love it ALL. Plus, we have the party activities covered with our cookie & cupcake decorating, which becomes the favors! The guests take them home. You take the extra cake. Then you leave the mess to us!
Our themed birthday parties are so popular! And, little girls especially seem to love a luau!
After decorating, we made Hawaiian leis and did the hula! At our themed parties – luau or otherwise – guests leave with their decorated baked goods, a bag of goodies from our candy buffet, and BIG smiles!
Our Cake Shop birthday parties are ideal for ages 4-years old and up … and adults too! We DEFINITELY get our share of preschool visitors, but we can customize our parties for kids of all ages, and make your child’s birthday party one he/she … and YOU … will always remember!
Preschool families are drawn to the decorating (a 4-year old’s dream: icing and candy, plus free rein to decorate however you’d like), and the fact that we keep the kids entertained with lots of games and activities!
