Linda Richards, proprietor of The Cake Shop, is a champion of the home-style recipes of childhood days. Whether celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or just a joyous day, Linda’s innovations of the classics will satisfy your eye, your palette, and your heart. Linda served as pastry chef for Epicurean/Trio Restaurant for several years. With over twenty years serving up sweet treats at The Cake Shop, Linda is a stalwart of the Tallahassee Gourmet community.

Steve Newman

Steve Newman continues to pursue his lifelong interest in baking and designing fine pastries. The artistry of his work reflects a sense of tradition and elegance. Chef Newman developed his own style and practice after training under ACF Master Pastry Chef Joseph McKenna in New York and Charleston, SC. Recruited westward, he worked in many top restaurants in Aspen, CO, Jackson Hole, WY and Lake Tahoe, CA. Returning to Tallahassee, Steve was hired as the pastry chef at the Governor’s Club, followed by Albert’s Provence. He has taught at the FSU Dedman School of Hospitality. Steve joined The Cake Shop in 2004 as a wedding cake pastry chef which he has been doing for over twenty years.

 

Hayden Royal

Baker

Hayden graduated from FSU with a degree in Environmental Studies. After college he started a mobile food truck business with his twin brother.  Hayden and his brother ran Royal Porker BBQ based in Tallahassee, FL.  He joined the team of bakers at The Cake Shop  2015. Hayden is passionate about creating our quiche, biscuits, breads, cookies and other gourmet creations.

Jena Wells

Cake Decorator

After growing up in Plantation, FL Jena moved to Tampa to attend USF where she obtained her Associate Arts Degree, followed by an Art Education at FSU. She began working as a preschool teacher and later switched careers to the food industry as a catering manager. Jena always loved baking and creating works of art, so she joined The Cake Shop team in 2014 as a Bakery Clerk. She was promoted to Cake Decorator in the fall of 2015 where she shows off her talents. Jena is also the mastermind behind the shop’s unique chalkboards which are scattered all around the store. When she’s not working, she enjoys running marathons, crafting, cooking and spending time with her son Liam.

Ale de Leon

Ale grew up in Miami, FL and moved to Tallahassee to attend college. She graduated from Keiser University in 2008 and started working as a catering chef for another local company. She joined the Cake Shop team in 2013 and has worked her way up to Front of the House Manager. In her free time she enjoys walking her dog and spending time with her son, Luca.

 

 

Lauren Whitworth

Lauren is a Tampa native who ventured to Tallahassee to attend Florida State University. She graduated with her undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Social Work, and has almost completed her Masters in Clinical Social Work. Thirteen years of Girl Scouts and countless hours of community enrichment and education has bolstered Lauren’s passion to work with children and adults in various social and professional settings. Lauren utilizes her creativity and organization to facilitate exciting events, smiling faces, and warm memories.

 

Tim Hurley

After graduating from The University of Akron with a Civil Engineering Degree, Tim spent many successful years in the road construction and paving business in south Florida.  He relocated to Tallahassee and joined The Cake Shop in 2013. Tim is responsible for The Cake Shop Mobile Sweet Van Service and is seen all around town throughout the week selling sweet treats to his fans. Being a current member of the Tallahassee Food Truck Association, he joins other local food trucks in organized events throughout the year.
